There’s no single right answer — but there are moments worth building around. Here’s how most families think about it.
The first year: more often than you’d expect
Babies change fast — really fast. A lot of families book a newborn session, then another around 6 months, then again close to their first birthday. Three sessions in twelve months sounds like a lot, but each one captures a completely different baby.
Toddler years: follow the moments, not the calendar
Once babies stop changing week to week, sessions tend to follow big moments instead — a second birthday, starting daycare, a new sibling arriving. Roughly once a year is common, tied to whatever’s actually happening.
School years: once a year works well
An annual session — often around a birthday or the start of the school year — is enough to capture how much they’ve changed without it feeling excessive. Kids at this age change in ways that are easy to miss day to day, and much clearer a year apart.
Teens: less frequent, but more intentional
Sessions often shift purpose here — less “capture every change,” more “this specific moment matters.” A modelling portfolio, a personal milestone, before a big move or school change.
The real answer
Forget a strict schedule. The moments most families end up glad they captured are the ones that mattered at the time — a new stage, a new sibling, a “they’ll never be this age again” feeling. If that feeling shows up, that’s usually the sign.
You don’t need a photo every few months to capture your child’s story. You need one at the moments that’ll matter later — and at POP!, that’s exactly what we’re here to help you capture.
